Tamilnadu state branch of national neonatology forum was the
brain child of the then doyens in pediatrics who fore thought neonatology as a
speciality by itself in the early 80s. Dr.Nagasamy , Dr.Jayam ,
Dr.C.Thirugnasambandam , Dr,K .G.Kamala and Dr.Gopal were the initial
torch bearers making Tamilnadu as one of the early state branches of Central NNF.
Tamil nadu hosted the 3rd annual NNF convention in Chennai way back in 1983 under their leadership.
Following
their footsteps Tamilnadu NNF was taken to greater heights by Dr.R. Shanmugasundaram , Dr.Prabhakar ,
Dr.Gita and Dr.T.L.Rathnakumari and Dr.Kumutha by recruiting more members, holding annual state
conferences and city neonatology meets which are still continuing.
A statewide training program in neonatal advanced life support (NALS) was widely conducted among the
doctors under the leadership of Dr.R.Shanmugasundaram to improve the delivery room care of neonates
and birth asphyxia which is an important contributor to neonatal mortality was reduced.
NNF is dedicated to improving neonatal healthcare standards by supporting medical professionals, promoting awareness, and ensuring better survival outcomes for newborns across the country.
